City cooling is one of the most important issues on the water sensitive cities agenda. The heat stored in roads, buildings and other structures makes cities hotter than rural areas. When combined with less shading, less evapotranspiration and more waste heat from infrastructure and vehicles, cities are particularly vulnerable to the urban heat island effect and the dire consequences of heatwaves. An urgent priority for city cooling is to add more green space and water—and many urban areas throughout Australia are making important strides in this direction. An excellent recent example is from Inner West Council in inner Sydney. Last month, the Council released its Green roofs, walls and facades technical guidelines for planning, designing, building and maintaining green roofs, walls and facades throughout the local government area.

Sydney garden maintenance & design

Cox Architecture has designed the planned redevelopment of Precinct 75, currently home to 12 heritage buildings leased to creative and light industrial tenants. The project would deliver build-to-rent apartments across three new and one partially retained building, which would together include 2, square metres of light industrial and commercial space at ground level.

Building heights would range from two to nine storeys. Another four buildings would be adapted to deliver another 14, square metres of commercial and light industrial floor space, while a new central green space and a series of through-site links designed by landscape architect McGregor Coxall would knit the precinct together.

It would be designed as a flexible space capable of hosting a variety of creative uses including arts and crafts workshops, a flexible gallery exhibit area, and studios for local artists.

The key shared spaces proposed are Makers Way, a new spine for the site providing pedestrian and vehicular access between Mary and Edith Street; The Commons, a large and unobstructed landscaped area at the centre of the site; and The Garden, a pocket park to the south of the site where the residential buildings are concentrated.

Should it be approved, it would be delivered across two stages, with the new residential buildings to be prioritized. Landscape photography shows the spaces within the world, sometimes vast and unending, but other times microscopic. Landscape photographs typically capture the presence of nature but can also focus on man-made features or disturbances of landscapes. Landscape photography is done for a variety of reasons. Perhaps the most common is to recall a personal observation or experience while in the outdoors, especially when traveling. Others pursue it particularly as an outdoor lifestyle, to be involved with nature and the elements, some as an escape from the artificial world. Many landscape photographs show little or no human activity and are created in the pursuit of a pure, unsullied depiction of nature , devoid of human influence—instead featuring subjects such as strongly defined landforms, weather, and ambient light. Some of the most important and celebrated landscape photographers have been motivated by an appreciation of the beauty of the natural environment and a desire to see it preserved. The work of William Henry Jackson in the midth century was instrumental in convincing Congress in to create Yellowstone , the first national park in the United States.

The multi-level Eleftheria Square is built within a section of the dry moat that, together with the Venetian Walls, marks the boundary between the oldest part of the city and the new neighbourhoods that surround it. Zaha Hadid Architects ' ZHA design transforms this previously inaccessible area into a series of tree-lined promenades, paved plazas, green spaces and water features. The architects' ambition is for the park to be the first stage in creating a "green belt" around the perimeter of the old city. As the Venetian Walls and moat extend across the Green Line that separates the Greek side of Cyprus from the Turkish occupied side, ZHA believe the project could become part of a reunification of the capital.
